The National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Nephology joined in a partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in November 2019. Their goals are to raise awareness and education while supporting innovations in kidney care and transplant technology.
The Advancing American Kidney Care proposed new support including funding for research, innovations in home dialysis, and increased access to kidney transplants. This 2019 executive order brings hope to patients and practitioners alike
Advanced practitioners (APs) include nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Nephrology specialty APs care for patients in dialysis centers, offices/clinics and in hospitals. Will there be enough APs to fill the gaps if the projected physician shortage continues?
Authors of the study suggest that “healthcare organizations take steps–as with physicians—to understand and meet their (APs) needs to ensure enough supply to meet growing demands.”
